POINT CLOUD MODELING

BENEFITS OF POINT CLOUD MODELING SERVICE:

Point cloud modeling is a precise, fast, and modern method that minimizes design errors and accelerates project execution. It is especially valuable for existing facilities or wherever building geometry is complex.

MEASUREMENT ACCURACY

Generation of a precise model of the existing structure with millimeter-level accuracy and elimination of errors caused by manual measurements.

MEASUREMENT SPEED

Depending on the size of the facility, scanning takes from a few hours to a maximum of a few days.

DESIGN SIMPLIFICATION

A solution particularly recommended for brownfield projects, where additions or modifications are required within an existing installation.

IMPROVED INTERDISCIPLINARY COORDINATION

Pipelines, cable trays, support and service structures – everything can be designed with actual collisions and geometry in mind.
Better collaboration between designers and contractors.

CAD/BIM MODELS

Files in .rcp, .rcs, .nwc, .nwd formats – ready for use in software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Plant3D, and Navisworks.

COST SAVINGS

Fewer reworks, fewer mistakes, fewer unnecessary elements – reduced labor and material costs.

IMPROVED AS-BUILT DOCUMENTATION

A point cloud is a “digital twin” – a complete record of what has actually been built on-site.
Valuable for handovers, inspections, and audits.

STEP-BY-STEP COOPERATION PROCESS:

The first step is a conversation during which we determine the project's focus.

Whether it involves the modernization of an existing installation, the creation of as-built documentation, or something else entirely.

At this stage:

  • we discuss data availability (whether the scanning is to be done by us or has already been completed),
  • we define the modeling scope (installation, structural elements, or full representation including the building),
  • we advise on the most suitable technical and scheduling solutions,
  • we set the project timeline and provide a preliminary cost estimate.

This is also the moment to get acquainted with our working style and communication approach.

If the Client provides their own point cloud (e.g. in .rcp/.rcs format), we assess its quality and completeness. If no data is available, we carry out on-site laser scanning – partnering with industry-leading 3D scanning companies to ensure the highest quality results.

At this stage:

  • we clean the data, remove noise (if required by the project), and orient the model within the appropriate coordinate system,
  • we trim the point cloud to the required scope (in many cases, an entire building consists of multiple separate point clouds, coordinated with each other to ensure proper performance within CAD software),
  • we integrate the point cloud into our design environment (AutoCAD, Plant3D, Revit, Inventor – depending on the project requirements).

A well-prepared point cloud is the foundation of a high-quality model.

Based on the point cloud, we create a detailed 3D model representing the actual condition of the facility or installation. The model may include elements such as:

  • piping, equipment, tanks, supports,

  • structural elements (beams, slabs, columns),

  • rooms, technological zones.

In parallel, if the project requires it, we generate 2D drawings and material take-offs.

Models can be delivered at various Levels of Development (LOD) and in formats tailored to the client's working environment.

Once the modeling is complete, we provide files for review — either a preliminary preview (e.g. PDF3D, .nwd) or a working model version.

At this stage:

  • we verify compliance with the agreed scope,

  • we incorporate any comments and suggestions,

  • we implement the necessary adjustments and finalize the files.

Our goal is for our Clients to be 100% satisfied with the results of our work.

In the final step, we deliver the complete set of final materials in the agreed formats:

  • 3D models (.dwg, .rvt, .ifc, .step, or other formats depending on prior arrangements),

  • 2D drawing documentation (.dwg, .pdf),

  • optional source data or viewer-compatible files (e.g. for Autodesk Viewer, Navisworks).
